Opera
Upcoming performances
Artistic diversity remains the core of opera at Theater Basel. Great classics of music theatre, from the beginnings to the present, meet new creations and world premieres. We are also opening the 2023/24 season in many voices: a four-week festival contextualises Benedikt von Peter's new production of Wagner's 'Ring' with works by various theatre-makers. This will be followed in autumn by the world premiere of the musical comedy 'Pferd frisst Hut', composed by Herbert Grönemeyer. Constanza Macras stages Bizet's opera classic 'Carmen' and Christoph Marthaler returns to the theatre with Monteverdi's 'L'incoronazione di Poppea'. For children and families, the mask theatre group Familie Flöz brings a poetic piece of music theatre to the stage with 'Unter dem Meer'. You can discover all this and much more in our programme.
