The Basel Theatre is quite big. So big, in fact, that it's easy to get lost in the many corridors, between doors, stages and floors. On our guided tour, we set off together on a playful expedition behind the scenes. We ride the giraffe lift, we go through a hidden tunnel, and much more. The tours are specially designed for children aged 6 and over and can also be attended without an accompanying person. More

For adults, we offer a public guided tour of Basel Theatre twice a month on Saturdays from October to June. More

  • Dates are published 4 times per season in the newsletter and online.
  • Length: 60 minutes
  • Registration required
  • Cost: CHF 10 for children, CHF 20 for adults

Dance, exuberant movement, lots of shared imagination and creativity - a party format for children aged 4 and over. Younger children are welcome if accompanied by a carer.
Our dance teacher Andrea Frei is inspired by the productions of the ballet Theater Basel and the working methods of the choreographers. From time to time, the dance community also sneaks into a Ballett Basel rehearsal and brings the choreographies they have watched back to the Foyer Public in their heads and feet.

  • The training is free and non-binding. Spontaneous drop-ins possible
  • Every Wednesday from 16:15 to 17:00 (except during school holidays)
  • For children aged 4 and over. Younger children in the presence of a carer

Children from 4 to 11 years can celebrate their birthday at the theatre. Child-friendly games in the foyer or behind the scenes as well as a joint visit to a performance – our theatre educators know their way around the theatre and how to deal with our young guests. More

For all those who spend their autumn or carnival holidays in Basel and are between 6 and 11 years old, there are holiday workshops. From Monday to Friday, teachers from various Basel cultural institutions organise a day each. Sometimes they go to the theatre, sometimes to an orchestra or a museum. At the end of the week, you can rightly call yourself a cultural connoisseur. Maximum 15 children per workshop. Cultural and handicraft materials as well as lunch are included in the course fee.

  • Autumn workshop: 9-13 October 2023
  • Carnival workshop: 12-16 February 2024 (registration from Tue 17 October 2023)
  • 09:00-17:00 each day
  • CHF 250 per child
  • Maximum 15 children per workshop

The family concerts shine with a new cooperation partner. The Kammerorchester Basel, together with the Theater Basel, brings two family concerts to the stage. The concept is the same as the previous season: a musical treat for young and old.

Info

On 3 December 2023 it's Family Day at Theater Basel again! There will be a programme for children and their grown-ups all day long. We have used our connections to the North Pole to put together a wintry Christmas programme for the whole family. We can't guarantee snow, but there will be plenty to discover, explore behind the scenes, do handicrafts, play and marvel at. More detailed information will follow.

In partnership with IWB.

The play clubs are Basel's theatre for everyone who wants to join in. In two play clubs, all children who feel like it can try out playing theatre. Welcome to our play clubs!

Info

We look forward to your visit with the whole family! We also know that the question quickly arises as to which production is suitable for the whole family.

In order to be able to give you an initial classification, our mediation team has thought about age-specific competencies for each of the 40 productions, such as the ability to abstract, the length of the play, depictions of violence or taboo topics, reception skills for play forms and linguistic content, as well as the demands of the plays on the ability to concentrate. Based on this, we try to classify for which age a production offers access and formulate an initial age recommendation.

These recommendations are intended as a guide, but not as an absolutely valid statement, not as an age restriction, nor as an unchangeable number. Sometimes the production idea changes during the rehearsal phase. Then we also correct our age recommendation. You can find the current recommendations on our website.
