Mezzo-soprano

The German mezzo-soprano Jasmin Jorias Etezadzadeh initially trained as an actress before completing her vocal studies in 2009. During her studies, she was already a member of the young ensemble at the Staatstheater Mainz and performed in numerous children's productions at the Frankfurt Opera. Past engagements have taken her to the Komische Oper Berlin, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the Kurt Weill Fest Dessau, among others. Her repertoire includes roles such as Herodias ‹Salome›, Mother ‹Il prigioniero›, Witch ‹Hänsel und Gretel›, Leokadja Begbick ‹Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny›, ‹Káťa Kabanová›, Brigitta ‹Die tote Stadt› and Old Lady ‹Candide›. An important milestone in the field of new music was her participation in the opera ‹22,13› by Marc André at the Munich Biennale and at the Festival d'Automne Paris. She is also active as an author and director: in 2022, Theater Basel staged her children's play ‹Trudi, die Geiss, reisst aus!› She has been a member of the Theater Basel ensemble since the 19/20 season. Here she sang Waltraute and 2nd Norn in Wagner's ‹Götterdämmerung› and ‹Walküre›, rehearsed the role of Fricka in ‹Das Rheingold› as a cover and played La Donna in ‹Intolleranza 1960›, which will take her to Ghent in May 2025. She also took on the title role in ‹Carmen› and sang Bobin in the world premiere of ‹Pferd frisst Hut› by Herbert Grönemeyer, which was invited to the Ruhrtriennale in 2024.
