Benedikt
von Peter Artistic Director and Artistic Director Opera

Benedikt von Peter was born in Cologne in 1977 and studied musicology, German, law and singing in Bonn. He then worked as an assistant director at various theatres and founded a free theatre collective. After several years in the independent scene, he directed productions at theatres and operas in Germany and Switzerland (including the Theater Basel, Oper Frankfurt, Staatstheater Hannover, Komische and Deutsche Oper Berlin), and from 2012 to 2016 Benedikt von Peter directed the music theatre section of the Theater Bremen. He was awarded the Götz Friedrich Prize, the theatre prize 'Der Faust' and the Kurt Hübner Prize in 2014 for the music theatre programme and his own productions at Theater Bremen. From 2016 to 2021 Benedikt von Peter is artistic director of the Luzerner Theater. Since the 20/21 season, he has been artistic director and artistic director of the opera at Theater Basel.
