Caterina Cianfarini studied viola in Frankfurt am Main and Saarbrücken and music theater directing at the Theaterakademie Hamburg. There she worked as a curator for the Salon Kleiner Michel and at various festivals for music and theater, including the Kaltstart Theaterfestival Hamburg. In the 16/17 season, she produced a production documentation of Benedikt von Peter's Lucerne production of Luigi Nono's ‹Prometeo› for the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Caterina Cianfarini was assistant director and stage manager at the Lucerne Theater from 2017 to 2020 and at Theater Basel from 2020 to 2022. She has worked with directors such as Benedikt von Peter, Herbert Fritsch and Susanne Kennedy. Since 2021, Caterina Cianfarini has held a teaching position at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg im Breisgau and since 2025 a lectureship in scenic performance, and since September 2024 she has been teaching directing and dramaturgy in the newly founded Music and Scene in Transformation course at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland. She has been working as a freelance director since 2023. In 2025 she was a semi-finalist in the Graz Ring Award. At Theater Basel, she most recently directed ‹Persona› and co-directed the ‹Ring des Nibelungen› with Benedikt von Peter.
