Karl-Heinz
After studying singing, tenor Karl-Heinz Brandt received his first permanent engagements at the Stadttheater Aachen and the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen before joining the Theater Basel ensemble in 1998. Guest engagements have taken him to the state theatres in Karlsruhe, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Nuremberg and Hanover as well as to the Semperoper Dresden, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Opéra Bastille Paris. He has appeared at the Théâtre national de l'Odéon and at the festivals in Avignon and Edinburgh with Christoph Marthaler's successful production of 'Meine faire Dame'. As a sought-after concert and oratorio singer, he has performed at venues including the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Tonhallen in Zurich and Düsseldorf, the Philharmonie in Cologne and Berlin and the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès Strasbourg. In recent seasons, Karl-Heinz Brandt has appeared in Herbert Fritsch's Strauss productions ('Intermezzo', 'Salome') and as the servant Ivan in 'Die Nase' by Shostakovich. After 25 years as a busy member of the ensemble at Theater Basel, Karl-Heinz Brandt regularly returns here as a guest, including for the revivals of 'Freischütz' and 'Abteilung Leben' as well as for the new production of Monteverdi's 'L'incoronazione di Poppea' (director: Christoph Marthaler). He sings the role of Mime in Benedikt von Peter's production of 'Ring des Nibelungen'.
