Narrative of origin as an everyday myth

Joseph Haydn's oratorio tells of the fundamental myths of Western culture: the biblical story of creation. The music takes us on a ride from the chaos of the seven days of creation to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Director Thomas Verstraeten, a member of the performance collective FC Bergman, draws inspiration for his work from local communities and subcultures. He has worked on ‹The Creation› with several schools in and around Basel. Together they interpret the story, which is as old as time itself, and confront it with their own stories. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Theater Basel choir and La Cetra Baroque Orchestra.

‹Die Schöpfung› is performed in two parts. The first part lasts roughly 25 minutes and is performed in the foyer of Theater Basel; the audience watches from the steps and balconies. The second part of the evening takes place on the Grosse Bühne; you are requested to sit in the seat with the same number on it as the number on your ticket.
