The Swiss classic as a ballet d'action
The mountains are Heidi's world. Carefree childhood days with Grandfather and Peter in the pastoral idyll of the Swiss Alps, an enforced move to the German city of Frankfurt and a happy return home. Wherever Heidi is, her nature-loving life energy warms everyone's heart. Johanna Spyri's novel does not tell exclusively about the Swiss mountains as a place of longing, but also describes poverty and social tensions. Richard Wherlock brings the Swiss classic to life as a rousing dance piece devoted to the themes of identity and belonging. What home means is perhaps only experienced when it is left.
