The Swiss classic as a ballet d'action
The mountains are Heidi's world. Carefree childhood days with Grandfather and Peter in the pastoral idyll of the Swiss Alps, an enforced move to the German city of Frankfurt and a happy return home. Wherever Heidi is, her nature-loving life energy warms everyone's heart. Johanna Spyri's novel does not tell exclusively about the Swiss mountains as a place of longing, but also describes poverty and social tensions. Richard Wherlock brings the Swiss classic to life as a rousing dance piece devoted to the themes of identity and belonging. What home means is perhaps only experienced when it is left.
The derniere of 'Heidi' marks the end of an era at Theater Basel. Richard Wherlock, who helped shape stage dance as ballet director for over twenty years, will be officially bidden farewell after the performance.
The first part of the evening will feature Richard Wherlock's last choreography as ballet director at Theater Basel. In the second part of the evening, a fitting goodbye will be celebrated, which, in keeping with Wherlock's spirit, does not mourn the end of his career, but rather exuberantly celebrates his life's work and creative output. Be there and say goodbye to Richard Wherlock on this evening full of surprises.
