Tenor Michael Laurenz was born in Halle an der Saale and initially worked as first trumpet with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. Since 2006 he has devoted himself to singing. From 2008 to 2010 he was a member of the Oper Zürich's opera studio, where he subsequently joined the ensemble. Guest appearances have taken him to the Staatsopern Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, the Opéra national de Paris, La Scala Milan, the Theater an der Wien, the Glyndebourne Festival and the operas in Amsterdam, Geneva, Lyon and Antwerp, where he debuted as Aegisth in 'Elektra' and Albert Gregor in 'The Makropulos Affair'. At the Bregenzer Festspiele, his guest appearances included Erich in the world premiere of HK Gruber's 'Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald' and Orsino in 'Beatrice Cenci'. At the Salzburger Festspiele he had great success as Josef K. in Gottfried von Einem's 'Der Prozess' and as Aegisth in 'Elektra', among others. From 2018 to 2020 he was part of the ensemble of the Wiener Staatsoper, in the meantime he can be seen freelancing on international opera stages. His successful role debuts as Stewa in 'Jenůfa' at the Wiener Staatsoper, Wenzel in 'The Bartered Bride' at the Bayerischen Staatsoper and as the Fool in 'Der Schatzgräber' at the Deutsche Oper will be followed for the first time by Loge in 'Das Rheingold' at the Wiener Staatsoper and Mime in 'Das Rheingold' and 'Siegfried' with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Further future engagements will take him to the Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan, the Theater Basel and the Salzburg Festival.
