An aimless musical comedy
The ‹Ship of Fools› was the first bestseller to be printed in German in 1494. It is a moral satire with a typology of over one hundred fools on a symbolic journey bound for the imaginary land of Narragonia. These late-medieval verses mock typical human faults such as greed, envy and jealousy, as well as «forgetting oneself» and «not taking a joke». The starting point for Marthe Meinhold and Marius Schötz's ‹Ship of Fools› is the personalities and ideas of the actors. The recurring theme of the directing duo is the group's ability to act and react. They write lyrics and music as part of the process. The result is highly intimate, playful evenings of (musical) theatre.
