Natalia Blok, born in 1980 in Kherson, is a playwright and director. Her plays are performed both in Ukraine and abroad at municipal theatres and in the independent scene. She has received several awards for her texts, including at the Ukrainian festival Tizhden Actual Play. She has also repeatedly been shortlisted for prestigious national and international competitions such as the Week of Current Play, the Batumi Monoplay Festival and Drama UA.
In 2020, she was a finalist in the international Ukrayinsʹkyy instytut competition, which has been presenting Ukrainian language and culture to the world since 2017. Her theatre plays have been translated into Polish, Georgian, French, English, Romanian, German and other languages. Natalia Blok is part of the founding team of the Theatre of Playwrights in Kiev. She has also written the scripts for numerous film and television productions. She recently won Netflix's screenplay development competition for Ukrainian writers. In spring 2022, she fled from Kiev to Basel via Warsaw, from where she continues her work today. In the 23/24 season, she wrote the play 'Life is Unstoppable' for Theater Basel.
