At the heart of the work of theatre and film maker Mats Süthoff, born in Aachen in 1992, is the expression of the body, the bringing of stories to life and a close collaboration between different disciplines. His diverse perspectives as an author, director, mask player and choreographer shape his theatrical and filmic works. After studying 'Physical Theatre' at the Folkwang University of the Arts, he became part of the Familie Flöz mask theatre group in 2017. As an author and actor, he is involved in the internationally touring productions 'Dr Nest', 'Himmelerde' and 'Hokuspokus'. He also works as a freelance choreographer and dramaturge at various theatres in German-speaking countries. Since 2019, he has worked closely with director Lucia Bihler, whose productions he directs, dramaturges and choreographs, including at Staatstheater Mainz, Volkstheater München, Volksbühne Berlin, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspielhaus Hamburg and, most recently, Burgtheater Wien. His first full-length feature film 'Seoul Subscriber' was released in 2020 and his short film 'Hikikomori' in 2023. In 2023, the play 'Die Eingeborenen von Maria Blut' will also be invited to the Theatertreffen, for which he designed the choreography and mask play. He is currently working on a new creation with the Familie Flöz and promoting his short film 'Hikikomori'.
