Jochen Schmeckenbecher studied at the Musikhochschule Köln. After permanent engagements at the Theater Hagen and the Komische Oper Berlin, he sings the essential roles of his subject at the international opera and concert stages. His main focus is on the German-language repertoire, including Amfortas and Klingsor ('Parsifal'), Kurwenal ('Tristan und Isolde'), Faninal ('Rosenkavalier'), Pizarro ('Fidelio'), Orest ('Elektra'), Peter (Hänsel und Gretel), Dr. Schön (Lulu) and the title role in 'Wozzeck'. He has enjoyed particular success time and again as Alberich ('Ring des Nibelungen'), including the Bastille in Paris, the Liceu Barcelona, the operas of Essen, Frankfurt and Leipzig, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, at the Tanglewood Festival, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Kulturpalast Dresden, the Müpa Budapest and at the Staatsopern of Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna, with which he has been closely associated since his debut as a music teacher ('Ariadne auf Naxos') in 2010. Other engagements have taken him to the Dresden, Munich and Stuttgart State Operas, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Met New York, La Scala Milan, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Theater an der Wien, the Volksoper Wien, the Salzburger Festspiele and the operas in Dallas, Essen, Lyon, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Turin.
