Performing artist and dancer David Lagerqvist received his professional dance training from 2007 to 2010 at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in his hometown of Stockholm and gained his first stage experience as a apprentice at the Royal Swedish Ballet. From 2014 to 2017, he danced with the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, touring worldwide with the company in repertoire pieces. As a freelance dancer, he has performed as a guest with companies such as the Danish Dance Theatre and Acosta Danza (Cuba) and danced with collectives such as Art Of Spectra and Pontus Lidberg Dance. He has worked as a performer at The Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten) in Stockholm and has appeared as an actor in international feature films and short films. His interdisciplinary work has also included a collaboration with visual artist Leiko Ikemura at Kunstmuseum Basel. Over the years, he has interpreted works by Tim Etchells & Vlatka Horvat, Sharon Eyal, Alexander Ekman, Bobbi Jene Smith, Saburo Teshigawara, Johan Inger, Fabrice Mazliah, Tilman O’Donnell, Falk Richter, and Martin Zimmermann, among others. Throughout his career, David has had an extensive interest in the intersection of dance, performance, and interdisciplinary collaboration, exploring storytelling and the expressive potential of movement. He joined Ballett Basel in 2020 (Richard Wherlock/Adolphe Binder); since summer 2025, he has been a member of the newly formed ensemble under the artistic direction of Marco Goecke. Added to this, David Lagerqvist also performs with Tanztheater Wuppertal as a guest in a piece by Pina Bausch.
