Thomas Meadowcroft is a freelance Australian composer and musician who has lived in Berlin since 1998. He has worked with various orchestras and ensembles including SWR Big Band and Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Mädchenchor der Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, Speak Percussion Melbourne and the New York ensemble Yarn/Wire. As a performer, he has appeared at various festivals and series, including Issue Project Room, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and the Pavilion of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. From 1994 to 1998, he studied composition in the USA with George Crumb. In 2013, 2016 and 2021 he produced a series of radio pieces on aspects of Australian regional culture for Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. In 2015 he developed the orchestration and arrangements for the opera 'Von einem der auszog, weil er sich die Miete nicht mehr leisten konnte' by René Pollesch and Dirk von Lowtzow, which premiered at the Volksbühne Berlin in the same year. At Theater Basel, he arranged Herbert Grönemeyer's music for 'Pferd frisst Hut' (2023) for the stage.
