Growing up as a folk and dance musician on the small stages of some taverns, the Swiss clarinettist Reto Bieri first studied music in Basel and Zurich, and later at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. For many years, he has been on the road, mainly with unconventional projects, but also with conventional concert programmes as a soloist and leader in collaboration with large and small orchestras in Europe, but also as a chamber musician with fellow musicians. His seasons as artistic director of the 'Davos Festival young artists in concert' (2013-2018) caused a sensation in the classical music scene. His CD recordings for the Munich cult label ECM were highly praised. With Bieri, you always have to reckon with the artistic enthusiasm of some people who are extremely important to him, such as the influence of clown Dimitri, musician Eberhard Feltz, writer Robert Walser or violinist and stage partner Patricia Kopatchinskaja. Reto Bieri currently teaches as a professor of chamber music at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich, loves, learns and lives with his family - completely without a mobile phone - in seclusion in the Swiss mountains.
