Judith Vrancken is an art historian, writer, dramaturg and occasional curator. She studied Art History at the University of Amsterdam and completed her Research Masters at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin. Until Spring 2023, Vrancken was the head writer and editor for Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT). Her writing hones in on the field of contemporary dance and performance, often within the visual art space, with a particular interest in rehearsal as a space of production. Recent projects include White Horse/Twin Horse (rehearsing an exhibition) with Tuur van Balen and Revital Cohen at BAK in Amsterdam for which Vrancken was a writer in residence in 2019, and Like the deserts miss the rain, a solo show with Beny Wagner at Rongwrong curated by Vrancken in 2018. Her writing has been published in Art Agenda, Frieze, CURA, Daisyworld, Flash Art, Metropolis M, and Artforum, among others. Recent writing includes an extended interview with Sidi Larbi Charkaoui for the twentieth issue of ‹Extra Extra› magazine, and a commissioned catalogue text on Hold on, a new performance work by Norwegian choreographer Ingri Fiksdal as part of the Holding Pattern exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo in 2022/2023. Vrancken will commence her new role in dramaturgy and communication for Ballet Basel at Theater Basel in August 2023.
