Born in 1995, countertenor Daan van der Schaft received his first singing lessons at the age of eight at the Cathedral Choir School in Utrecht. In 2023 he began his master's degree in classical singing at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, where he is currently studying with Marcel Boone. Daan van der Schaft has performed as soloist in various Passion concerts of the Utrecht Bach Cantata Services and has been soloist with various ensembles in Orff's 'Carmina Burana', Handel's 'Dixit Dominus', Bach's B minor Mass and Vivaldi's 'Gloria'. He also participated in an opera production of Rossini's 'La Cenerentola'. He is an enthusiastic choral singer and sang for several years with the Utrecht Student Cantorij, the Dutch Student Chamber Choir and the World Youth Choir. In 2019 he participated in the choral education project 'Meesters&Gezellen'. Daan van der Schaft has taken master classes with Michael Chance, Maarten Engeltjes and Margreet Honig, among others.
