Christian Rombach is a German conductor and percussionist who lives and works in Basel. As a versatile performer, he is particularly committed to the performance of new music and rarely performed works. In 2018, for example, he conducted the German premiere of Beat Furrer's 'a sei voce' at the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin and in 2016 worked at the Gare du Nord as Jürg Henneberger's assistant for the opera 'Luce miei traditrici' by Salvatore Sciarrino. He has appeared as a conductor at numerous festivals, including the Berlin Baroque Days, Wien Modern, Zeiträume Basel and the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. Christian Rombach works with composers such as Georg Friedrich Haas, George Aperghis, Beat Furrer, Jürg Frey, Simon Løffler and Carola Bauckholt. In 2018, he was elected conductor of the Bern Student:innenorchester, where he was musical director until the end of 2019. As a sought-after chamber musician, he regularly appears on stage with musicians such as Håkon Stene, Matthias Würsch, Felix Renggli, Patrick Demenga and Isabelle van Keulen. In addition to a teaching position at the Musikschule Südschwarzwald and substitute teaching at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, he also passes on his experience in New Music in the context of various educational projects, for which he has so far worked with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Freiburg i. Br. Theatre, the Collegium Novum Zurich and the Black Forest Percussion Group.
