Roland Edrich began his professional career at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin with Peter Stein and Karl-Ernst Herrmann, where he learned the craft of lighting and lighting direction. He created his first lighting design in 1988 for 'Die Entführung aus dem Serail' at the Theater an der Wien, directed by Karl-Ernst and Ursel Herrmann. After that, Roland Edrich worked freelance for Robert Wilson, among others. As a lighting designer, he supervised numerous exhibitions such as the German Pavilion at Expo 2000, the House of History or the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik and worked with directors such as Christof Loy, Achim Freyer, Simon Stone, Elmar Goerden, Vera Nemirova, Vasily Barkhatov or Lydia Steier. Roland Edrich has worked at the Theater Heidelberg, the Staatstheater Stuttgart as well as the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Theater Basel as head of lighting.
