Tilman aus dem Siepen was born in Luxembourg by chance and grew up in Shanghai, Moscow and Potsdam. After musical training as a violinist and percussionist, he studied musical theatre directing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. During his studies he met Hans Neuenfels and became his collaborator. Tilman aus dem Siepen staged 'Der Freischütz' (Weber) and 'Die Fledermaus' (Strauss) at the Heimathafen Neukölln. The latter was described by the press as "trend-setting for operetta". Most recently he directed 'Die Kluge' (Orff) at the Leipzig Academy of Music and Theatre - this production was taken over by the Thüringer Landestheater Rudolstadt. As an assistant director, Tilman aus dem Siepen has already made guest appearances at the Komische Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Bayrische Staatsoper, and the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals. Since the 2022/23 season, he has been engaged as a theatre director at Theater Basel, where he will make his Swiss debut as a director with 'Mignon' (Thomas).
