Musicians

Ludovic Van Hellemont was born in Belgium. The Belgian-Swiss pianist, keyboardist and Ondes Martenot player studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels (Jan Michiels), at the Basel School of Music (Claudio Martinez Mehner) and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Edoardo Torbianelli). He is a member of the Basel Sinfonietta and the Ensemble Phoenix Basel and an important protagonist of the contemporary Swiss music scene. Ludovic has performed in numerous European countries as well as in Singapore, the Philippines and Australia. Recent highlights include his complete performance of John Cage's 'Sonatas and Interludes' for prepared piano at the Hear & Now music festival in Liestal and his participation in the opera 'Einstein on the Beach' by Philip Glass at Theater Basel. He plays historical and electronic keyboard instruments with an awareness of tradition, but also radically detached from their context. His video productions 'Partita | rewired' (music by Johann Sebastian Bach interpreted on Ondes Martenot) and 'Goldberg | retuned' have attracted a great deal of attention. With the Ensemble thélème, which specialises in Renaissance music, he received the Grammophone Award 2022 in the Early Music category for the album 'Baisiez-moy' with music by Josquin Desprez, released on the Aparté label. In the 23/24 season he is part of the band of 'Die Dreigroschenoper'.
