Bass-baritone

Bass-baritone Andrew Murphy hails from Dublin. From 1986 to 1989, he was a member of the opera studio of Bayerische Staatsoper. After permanent engagements in Ulm and Saarbrücken, Andrew moved to Theater Basel in 2001, where he has been an ensemble member ever since. His broad repertoire includes, among others, Leporello ‹Don Giovanni›), Figaro and Doctor Bartolo (‹Le nozze di Figaro›), the title role in ‹Don Pasquale›, Schaunard (‹La Bohème›), Sixtus Beckmesser (‹Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg›), Golaud (‹Pelléas et Mélisande›), Méphistophélès (‹La damnation de Faust›) and Don Alfonso (‹Così fan tutte›). At Theater Basel, Andrew's most recent roles have included Bartolo in ‹Le nozze di Figaro› and Doctor Bartolo in ‹Il barbiere di Siviglia›, as well as the narrator in ‹Zauberflöte›, Herbert Fritsch's production of ‹Intermezzo› and the title role in Puccini's ‹Gianni Schicchi›.
