Stéphane Laimé was born in 1966 in La Terté-Bernard, France. He worked as an assistant stage designer for directors Andrea Breth, Luc Bondy, Robert Wilson and Klaus Michael Grüber. Stéphane Laimé has designed sets for productions by Stefan Pucher, Thomas Ostermeier and Thomas Dannemann at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Vienna Festival, the Maxim Gorki Theater, the Schauspielhaus Zürich, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Münchner Kammerspiele and in Hamburg at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the Thalia Theater. In 2007 he received the Austrian Nestroy Theater Prize and in 2008 the Opus Prize of the German Stage Association. In 2011, he was named Stage Designer of the Year by Theater heute magazine for his work on Miller's 'Death of a Salesman' at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
