Stefan Pucher was born in Giessen in 1965. He studied theater and American studies in Frankfurt am Main. From the mid-1990s, he worked intensively on various performance projects involving the interplay of video art, music samples and literary material. In addition, he directed continuously at the Theater am Turm (TAT) in Frankfurt. In 1999, he staged Chekhov's "Der Kirschgarten" (The Cherry Orchard), a classical theater text, for the first time at the Theater Basel. This was followed by productions at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin and the Münchner Kammerspiele. From 2000 to 2004 he was in-house director at the Schauspielhaus Zurich. In 2005, Pucher was voted Director of the Year by a jury of theater critics in the annual survey of the magazine Theater heute. His productions have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen several times, including his production of 'Ein Volksfeind' by Henrik Ibsen at the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2016.
