Hoffmann Musical direction

Sebastian Hoffmann, born in Kiel in 1975, heard a Glenn Miller record at the age of eight and began playing the trombone in a youth wind orchestra shortly afterwards. From 1995 to 2001, he studied jazz trombone and jazz composition/arrangement at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Dieter Glawischnig and Joe Gallardo. During his studies, he was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester and has since played regularly with the NDR big band, e.g. on a tour of Brazil with Joao Bosco in 2007 or together with Quincy Jones in Gdansk in 2012. From 2006 to 2010 and 2023 he was part of the live band of Fettes Brot.
He has played with Roger Cicero, Carsten Erobique Meyer, Jan Delay and Rocko Schamoni, among others, and founded the big band Operation Grand Slam with drummer Christin Neddens in 2016. In 2002, he gained his first theatre experience at the Hamburg Kammerspiele with Dominique Horwitz. In 2011, he composed the music for and with Studio Braun for their play 'Go to Hell, Ingo Sachs' at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and conducted the orchestra there. Sebastian worked as a trombonist at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg from 2013 to 2017 in productions by Sebastian Baumgarten and Herbert Fritsch, before returning as musical director, composer and arranger for the plays 'Der goldene Handschuh' and 'Coolhaze' by and with Studio Braun. In the 23/24 season, he took over the musical direction for 'Die Dreigroschenoper'.
