Maxime Pascal is passionate about 20th century French music and new music. In opera, he conducted Salvatore Sciarrino's 'Te vedo, ti sento, mi perdo' at La Scala in Milan in 2017, which he later brought to the Staatsoper Berlin. In 2019, Luca Francesconi's 'Quartet' brought him back to Milan for his third collaboration with Teatro alla Scala. In 2021, he conducted a new production of Karlheinz Stockhausen's 'Thursday of Light' at the Philharmonie de Paris. He also performed the new opera 'Au Coeur de l'Ocean' in Paris and Lille and conducted Alban Berg's 'Lulu' in Japan. Other work has taken him to the Paris Opera on several occasions (including 'Daphnis et Chloé', 'Boléro' and 'Gianni Schicchi'), to Malmö Opera ('Pelléas et Mélisande') and to the BBC Proms ('L'Enfance du Christ'). In Berlin and Geneva he conducted Peter Eötvös' opera 'Sleepless'. Among the orchestras he has worked with are the Hallé Orchestra, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. At Theater Basel, he will conduct Bizet's 'Carmen' in the 23/24 season.
