Rathke Directorial collaboration

Joachim Rathke studied musicology and Romance languages and literature in Hamburg and opera directing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He has been working as a freelance director since 2001 and has staged numerous operas at theaters in Regensburg, Koblenz, Halle, Kiel, Giessen, Salzburg, as well as at the Munich Biennale for New Music Theater, the Engadin Opera Festival in St. Moritz, and Opera Ireland in Dublin, among others. He has worked closely with Christoph Marthaler on productions at the Opéra national de Paris, the Hamburg State Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Ruhrtriennale and the Salzburg Festival. Teaching assignments have taken him to Leipzig and Munich as well as to Bangkok and Tokyo. At Theater Basel he is engaged in the season 23/24 - again in collaboration with Christoph Marthaler - for 'L'incoronazione di Poppea'.
