After training as a primary school teacher, Swiss-born Stefan Kurt studied acting at the Bern Conservatory of Music and Theatre before moving to Jürgen Flimm's Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Here he met Robert Wilson, who had a great influence on his artistic development with ‹Black Rider›. In 1993, Stefan Kurt stepped in front of the camera for the first time. With his leading role in the TV multi-part ‹Der Schattenmann›, directed by D. Wedel, he became known to a wide audience and was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize and the Telestar. His roles range from dramatic material such as ‹Der Verdingbub› (M. Imboden) and ‹Jagdzeit› (S. Boss) to children's films such as ‹Pettersson und Findus› (A.S. Ahadi) and comedies such as ‹Papa Moll› (M.F. Hendry) and 2022's ‹Die goldenen Jahre› (B. Kulscar). He also remains loyal to the music and theater stage. He appeared as Frosch in ‹Rache der Fledermaus› at the Casinotheater in Winterthur in 2019 and in ‹Frühlingsstürme› (directed by Barrie Kosky) at the Komische Oper Berlin in 2020. Stefan Kurt has also appeared as a photographer and visual artist since 2006. Roles such as Zaza in ‹La cage aux folles›, Russell Paxton in ‹Lady in the Dark› and the Narrator/Mysterious Man in ‹Into the Woods› have already taken him to Basel.
