Marie Roth first studied art history at Humboldt University and later stage and costume design at the Kunsthochschule Weissensee in Berlin. After graduating, she spent a year there as a master student. She has been working as a freelancer since 2003, designing stage and costume designs. She has created numerous works for various theatres, including Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Centraltheater Leipzig, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Theater Basel, Wiener Festwochen, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Residenztheater München, Schauspielhaus Bochum and Burgtheater Wien. In the winter semester 20/21, she taught directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts and stage and costume design at the Weissensee Academy of Art, both in Berlin. She has worked with various directors, including Nora Schlocker, Jan Philipp Gloger, Frank Abt and Mareike Mikat. 'Ein Kafka-Projekt' at the Theater Basel is her first collaboration with director and choreographer Saar Magal.
