Knut Klassen, visual artist, lives and works in Berlin. He studied fine arts at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg from 1989 to 1995 and worked together with John Bock from 1998 to 2004. Since 2005, Knut Klassen has been part of the German-French-West African theater/performance group Gintersdorfer/Klassen, which develops projects in which they make the performers' life strategies and forms of expression the focus and confront them with their own strategies and aesthetics. The group performs at theaters and festivals in Germany and Europe as well as in West Africa. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons, Gintersdorfer/Klassen were artists in residence at Theater Bremen as part of Doppelpass. During this time, they created the opera 'Les robots ne connaissent pas le blues' or 'Die Entführung aus dem Serail', among others, in collaboration with Benedikt von Peter. Since 2017, Knut Klassen has held a teaching position in stage and costume design at the HfBK Dresden. At Theater Basel, Gintersdorfer/Klassen will stage a performance project in the 23/24 season with 'Yopougon-Ring'.
