Titus Engel was named Conductor of the Year by the international opera magazine Opernwelt in 2020. Respected for his expertise in the field of historical performances as well as for his conducting of complex contemporary projects, the Berlin-based native of Zurich can also be experienced regularly presenting central works of opera literature. In the 2023/24 season, he will become principal conductor of Basel Sinfonietta. Guest conducting projects have seen him appear with Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Philharmonia Orchestra London, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, SWR Sinfonieorchester and Mahler Chamber Orchestra, to name just a few. Since his opera debut in Dresden in 2000, he has been a regular guest at the opera houses in Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Lyon, Basel and Geneva, conducting performances of Wagner's ‹Lohengrin›, Berg's ‹Wozzeck›, Strauss' ‹Salome›, Nielsen's ‹Maskerade› and Haas' ‹Bluthaus›. Together with Lydia Steier, Titus brought Stockhausen's ‹Donnerstag› to the stage of Theater Basel in 2016 (Performance of the Year, Opernwelt). Other productions at Theater Basel have included ‹La Traviata› and Michael Wertmüller's ‹Diodati.Unendlich›. Titus has also conducted world premieres at the Salzburg Festival, the Berlin Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the RuhrTriennale, Teatro Real in Madrid and Vienna Konzerthaus.
