Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja focuses on getting to the heart of the music. With a combination of depth, brilliance and humour, she brings an inimitable theatricality to her music. In 2022/23 Kopatchinskaja presents her new György Ligeti-inspired project 'In search of a lost melody' and a revival of 'Maria Mater Meretrix' with Anna Prohaska on a European tour. Kopatchinskaja is also embarking on an extensive European tour with her long-time partner Fazil Say to launch the release of her new album. Her absolute priority is 20th and 21st century music and collaborations with living composers such as Luca Francesconi, Michael Hersch, György Kurtág, Márton Illés and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Kopatchinskaja conducts staged concerts on both sides of the Atlantic and collaborates with leading orchestras, conductors and festivals worldwide. Her discography includes more than 30 recordings, including the Grammy-winning 'Death and the Maiden' with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra or 'Les Plaisirs Illuminés' with Sol Gabetta and the Camerata Bern, which won a BBC Music Magazine award. At Theater Basel, Kopatchinskaja is crossing borders in the 22/23 season with a daring musical experiment that she is realising together with Herbert Fritsch and the visual artist Jannis Varelas in the neo-Dada opera production 'Vergeigt'.
