Evelyn Herlitzius received her musical education at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. This was followed by engagements in Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe. In 1997, she made her debut at Staatsoper Dresden as Leonore in ‹Fidelio›. In Dresden, she was cast in many great roles, such as Jenůfa, Elisabeth / Venus (‹Tannhäuser›), Sieglinde and Brünnhilde (‹Der Ring des Nibelungen›), Kundry (‹Parsifal›) and Lady Macbeth von Mzensk. Evelyn has made guest appearances at Staatsoper Wien, Deutsche Oper Berlin, De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and at Teatro alla Scala di Milano. She made her Bayreuth Festival debut in 2002 as Brünnhilde and was invited back again for the Ring cycle in 2003 and 2004, for Kundry in 2006 and 2007, and for Isolde in 2015. She has sung Elektra in Zürich, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona and Vienna, to name a few places. Evelyn has worked with an array of conductors and directors, such as Sir Georg Solti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Pierre Boulez, Sebastian Weigle, Simone Young, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniel Barenboim, Ingo Metzmacher, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Andreas Homoki, Harry Kupfer, Christof Loy, Peter Mussbach, Hans Neuenfels and Christoph Schlingensief. In 2002, she was appointed Kammersängerin. She has also received various awards, including the «Christel-Goltz Prize» (1999) and the German Theatre Prize «Der Faust» (2006 and 2014).
