Marie Bues

Marie Bues is a director and will become the artistic director of Schauspielhaus Wien together with Martina Grohmann, Mazlum Nergiz and Tobias Herzberg at the start of the 2023/24 season. Together with Martina Grohmann, she was the artistic director at Theater Rampe Stuttgart from 2013 to 2021. She currently works as a freelance director and curator and lives in Berlin. Marie studied acting at the State University of Music and the Performing Arts in Stuttgart. Since 2007, she has directed at Theater Basel, Residenztheater München, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Bühnen Bern, Theater St. Gallen, Schauspielhaus Graz, Schauspiel Köln, and regularly at Theater Rampe and Staatstheater Hannover. In her work as a director, Marie consistently deals with new texts and works closely with the respective authors. For their programmatic focus on contemporary drama and experimental contemporary theatre practices at Theater Rampe, Martina Grohmann and Marie Bues were awarded the Federal Theatre Prize in 2019, the Martin Linzer Theatre Prize of the German monthly magazine ‹Theater der Zeit› in 2021, and the Rosa Detlef Prize in 2020 for their outstanding commitment to the LGBTTIQ community. Her production of Sivan Ben Yishai's ‹Wounds Are Forever (Selbstporträt als Nationaldichterin)› was nominated for the German theatre prize ‹Der Faust› in 2022 and invited to the Mühlheimer Theatertage.
