Rubén Darío Bañol Herrera was born in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. He started his training at the Colombian Institute of Classical Ballet, Incolballet, at age seventeen and then did two more years of training at the Royal Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. He was selected to become part of Europe Danse young people of the European Union and after became part of the Compañia nacional de danza 2 under the direction of Nacho Duato and Tony Fabre. In 2008 he joined  Ballet de la Generalitat Valenciana where he performed several soloist roles for 5 years. In 2014 he danced with Elephant in the black box and finally arrived in Ballet Basel under the direction of Richard Wherlock. During his career, he has worked and performed in choreographies by Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Ramon Oller, Itzik Galili, Richard Wherlock, Ed Wubbe, Alexander Ekman, Stephan Thoss, Stijn Celis, Johan Inger, Hofesh Shechter, Jiri Pokorny, Sharon Eyal among others. Currently he participates at the project Inside the Ballett Theater Basel and other Video projects.
