Markus
Schmied Musician

Markus Schmied was born and raised in Liestal. He trained as a percussionist and school musician at music academies in Switzerland and Germany. Today, he teaches at a high school in Basel and is involved in various projects as a timpanist, vibraphonist and cimbalom player. In recent years, Markus has increasingly turned to composition and is particularly interested in music for (silent) films and theatre. His project ‹Zwischengesicht›, explores sounds between analogue and digital, natural and artificial, sound and noise, using interactions between humans and machines. At Theater Basel, he can be seen on stage in the 2022/23 season as a cimbalom player in ‹Coppélia› by Edward Clug.
