Theater Basel wants to be a theatre for everyone and therefore tries to create as many different access points as possible so that participation is open to all. Access is all those aspects that enable you to visit the theatre as you wish. In other words, all visitors benefit from a theatre that is as accessible as possible.

Together with experts from residential homes and the UK Network Northwestern Switzerland, Theater Basel has developed the 'Sensory Guided Tour with AAC' behind the scenes. This is a guided tour with Metacom symbols and structuring aids based on the TEACCH approach. The guides use PORTA gestures and ensure that not only visual but also many haptic impressions can be gained. More

The inclusive cultural festival in the border triangle 'TRIO' connects us across borders. 'TRIO' is colourful, playful and lively. 'TRIO' fills stages with music, dance, theatre and other art forms. Biographies, talents, impairments or disabilities are enriching. TRIO' celebrates the diversity of life. Theater Basel will also be involved in the first edition of the festival from 7 to 19 October 2024.
Theater Basel tries to present information on theatre operations and events in such a way that it is as accessible as possible.
The Theater Basel website is accessible. The site was certified in accordance with the international WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines in February 2023. To this end, we are cooperating with the competence partner for barrier-free technology in Switzerland 'Access for All'.
As part of the Disability Rights Action Days from 15 May to 15 June 2024, Theater Basel will share its experiences on the way to WCAG 2.1 AA certification on 10 June 2024. More
Theater Basel strives to use gender-sensitive language, as recommended by the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Specifically, we use the colon as a methodology. With this orthotypographical strategy, we want to take into account that people are different, we want to address urban society and our audience as broadly as possible; always with the attitude that plurality enriches us.
We have three main venues at Theater Basel: Grosse Bühne, Kleine Bühne and Schauspielhaus. The Foyer Public, which invites you to linger from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, is located in the foyer of the LGrosse Bühne.

Use the lift in Theaterstrasse, directly opposite the bus stop. This will take you to the foyer of Theater Basel and thus to our venues Grosse Bühne and Kleine Bühne as well as to the Foyer Public. - Public transport stop ‹Bankverein›
Walk across the Steinenberg along the Tinguely Fountain to the theatre or to our theatre café in the foyer directly behind the Elisabethenkirche. A lift connects all three levels of the foyer.

If you are travelling from the 'Heuwaage' stop in the direction of Barfüsserplatz, you will find the Schauspielhaus on the right-hand side of Steinentorstrasse.
You can park in the Theater Basel multi-storey car park. This can be reached via Theaterstrasse. There are parking spaces available for people with disabilities. The lift takes you directly to the main entrance of Theater Basel and thus to the main stage, the small stage and the public foyer.
Discounts and assistance options are designed to make a visit to the theatre possible for everyone.
Assistance dogs have access to the theatre. They can wait in the cloakroom or be taken into the theatre with you. We will be happy to reserve a suitable seat for you.
Fancy going to a performance, but not alone? Would you like someone to accompany you? Then KulturPLUS1 is the perfect offer for you!
Book a PLUS1 ticket up to one week before the performance and we will find you a PLUS1 cultural companion who will support you and enjoy your cultural visit with you. If you live in the Basel area, the PLUS1 cultural companion will take you from your home to Theater Basel and back again after the performance.
You only pay for your ticket. The accompaniment is free of charge.

We want you to experience what happens on our stages. That's why Theater Basel offers different approaches to the artistic content - some on all dates, others are made possible on individual performance dates.
We subtitle all opera performances on the main stage and in the theatre (except premieres) in German and English. All theatre performances on the main stage and in the Schauspielhaus (except premieres) are subtitled in English.
All our stages are equipped with an FM listening system (radio). The headphones (with or without induction loop) can be individually adjusted. They can be borrowed free of charge from our cloakrooms in the foyers.
With audio description, certain aspects of a performance, e.g. the stage set, the costumes or the exclusively visible plot, are supplemented by an audio description. The audio description is recorded live and played through headphones.

Selected performances and the preceding introduction will be translated into sign language.

In Relaxed Performances, conventions in performance spaces are loosened up: the auditorium lights are on for the entire performance, audience members are allowed to leave and return at any time, loud noises and unexpected changes of mood are announced where unavoidable.
