Luzius Schuler, born 1989, is a freelance musician, composer and producer. Coming from a musical family, he began playing the piano at 9, discovered jazz at 16 and started studying at Bern University of the Arts at 19. There he studied piano and composition with Colin Vallon and Django Bates. In 2022, he completed his second Master's degree in Elementary Music Education at ZHdK.

Luzius does not see jazz as a genre, but as an individual and creative approach to making music. He can mainly be found playing in bands and projects where styles merge, improvisation is the name of the game and new, individual forms of expression are sought. Luzius moves effortlessly between acoustic settings and electronic sound productions, for example in the chamber music collective Esche, the alternative pop band Alois or the indie jazz quartet Weird Beard. He is currently developing his solo piano programme ‹Moon Is The Oldest TV›. Furthermore, he increasingly explores the interface between music and image – with video artists or in silent film settings – and music and performance.

Luzius is also active in art education as a curator and organiser, including Tuesday Jams, a house concert series and a jazz festival in Langenthal.
He was an assistant lecturer for jazz piano at the Sound Arts Department of BUA and at PH Bern. Luzius currently teaches at MKZ and privately.
