Mário Branco was born in Portugal in 1986 and showed great interest in the performing arts from a young age. In 2004, parallel to his studies in dentistry, he began studying theatre in Lisbon and participated in several plays and in a short film. Being a very physical actor, he became increasingly interested in movement. From 2010 onwards, his attention shifted to dance. Still living in Lisbon, he came into contact with various styles of dance and participated in several workshops throughout Europe over the following years. In 2013, Mário joined the formation Danscentrumjette in Belgium, where he worked with David Zambrano, Fighting Monkeys and Meytal Blanaru, becoming a resident and performer in 2014. He has been dancing in opera productions since 2016. Collaboration with directors like Christof Loy, Dimitri Tcherniakov, Laurent Pelly, Lotte de Beer, Marie-Eve Signeyrole and Stefano Poda has taken him to various theatres, such as the Royal Opera House, Théâtre de la Monnaie and De Nationale Opera. He has also worked with choreographers such as Otto Pichler, Klevis Elmazaj, Zack Winokur, Joe Monaghan and Itzik Galilli. He is interested in the intersections between varying art forms and develops his own artistic work, with a particular interest in directing and performance. At the same time, he is developing his practice in holistic medicine, such as kinesiology and reiki.
