Yannick Debus was born in Hamburg and trained at Musikhochschule Lübeck, where he studied Singing and Music Theory/Ear Training as part of a double degree programme. At the same time, he enjoyed private lessons under the guidance of Margreet Honig in Amsterdam for several years. In Basel, he continued his education at the Basel Academy of Music and the Schola Cantorum, graduating with honours under the tutelage of Marcel Boone and Rosa Dominguez. Yannick gained initial stage experience in university productions, performing the title roles in Mozart's ‹Figaro› and ‹Don Giovanni›. This was followed by roles at the opera houses in Kiel and Lübeck (including Don Perizonio/‹L'impresario in angustie›), at Junge Oper Schloss Weikersheim (Peter Besenbinder/‹Hänsel und Gretel›) and at Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (Gugliemo/‹Così fan tutte›). He has also appeared at Opernhaus Zürich as Kilian in Weber's ‹Freischütz› and as the narrator in ‹Zauberflöte›. During the 2020/21 season, Yannick was a member of the International Opera Studio of Oper Zürich. In addition to opera, another focus of his work is on classical and concert singing, making him a regular guest at renowned concert halls throughout Europe. Together with René Jacobs and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Yannick also brought out Weber's ‹Freischütz› on CD. At Theater Basel, he performed the title role of Kaiser Overall in Ullmann's ‹Der Kaiser von Atlantis› in January 2019 and sang Figaro in Darius Milhaud's ‹La mère coupable›. In the 2022/23 season, he could be seen in the role of Raphael/Adam in ‹Schöpfung›.
