This page addresses all teachers who would like to visit Theater Basel with their school class. We have therefore selected the theatre, ballet and opera performances that can be easily attended by school classes – regardless of their programmes. No previous knowledge or experience of theatre is required.

Young people pay CHF 20 or CHF 10
- For children and young people up to the age of 16
- For everyone completing vocational training up to the age of 30
CHF 20 on Grosse Bühne and CHF 10 in the Schauspielhaus and on Kleine Bühne. All performances also available as advance sales and in the ticket shop. Also new for premieres.
One teacher per 10 pupils receives free admission.

Preparation and follow-up session
Are you planning to come with your class to one of our performances? We would be more than happy to provide a detailed preparation or follow-up session at your school or to meet up with you at Theater Basel. We put together the contents and practical exercises according to your needs and wishes. (There are a limited number of dates available for each production.)

Rehearsal visit
Many weeks of rehearsals take place before a premiere. But what exactly happens in the samples? Your school class will get a feeling of what it is like during a rehearsal visit. You have the opportunity to visit opera, theatre and ballet rehearsals on all of our stages. You can also witness one of the almost daily training sessions of the ballet company by prior appointment: Monday – Saturday, 10 am–11.30 am.

Guided tours
Over 400 people work at Theater Basel in 75 different professions. A guided tour of Theater Basel provides a look behind the scenes. The tour of the entire building and the workshops gives an good impression of everyday life at a theatre. A guided tour is possible in various languages and focusing on different aspects: About a specific piece. About various professions. About the architecture. Or a playful and fun-packed tour for primary level pupils.

Materials
We provide teaching materials for the pieces recommended for schools. Sie enthalten They contain background information, lesson plans, practical exercises, games and worksheets. Upon request, we can send the materials by email.

Patronage
Through a patronage, we provide intensive support for your school class over a longer period of time, such as a whole school year. But also shorter periods of one week or more are possible. The goal of a patronage is to equip your pupils with the capacity to develop an understanding of the theatre on their own. The type and scope of a patronage can be discussed individually.

Day of culture
We spend a full day with your class or an entire grade at the Theater Basel. There are guided tours, rehearsal visits and workshops from various areas of the world of theatre. The daytime programme is coordinated with a visit to the theatre in the evening, thus rounding off a interesting day.

Preview for teachers
We offer age and grade recommendations, but nobody knows your students better than you do. To allow you to see what we offer and to prepare for your trip to the theatre with your class, we invite you to come and take a look at our new productions beforehand. All preview dates are published a few weeks in advance in our newsletter.

Workshops
We also offer workshops independent of a performance visit. For groups who want to start a school theatre themselves. For school classes who want to deal with the topic of bullying or who are interested in job application training. Or for groups of teachers who would like to deepen their theatre pedagogical methods. The costs per workshop vary depending on the desired content and duration of the workshops.
