Ueli Jäggi was born in Olten, Switzerland. After studying German, Romance languages and literature and history, he attended the Schauspiel-Akademie in Zurich. He received his first engagements at the Theater der Jugend München and at the Nürnberger Schauspielhaus. Engagements followed at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. In the 1990s he played at the Theater Basel, where he met Christoph Marthaler, with whom he has since had a long-standing collaboration. From 2000 to 2004 he was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Schauspielhaus Zürich, directed by Marthaler. In 2001 he was voted Actor of the Year in the critics' poll of the magazine Theater heute, and in 2004 and 2006 he received the German Audiobook Prize for his readings of Melville's 'Bartleby the Writer' and Gogol's 'Notes of a Madman'. Since 2008 he has been voicing Kriminaloberrat Xaver Finkbeiner in ARD's radio Tatort. In addition, Ueli Jäggi can be seen regularly in cinema and television productions, for example since 2000 as Dr. Aurino in 'Commissario Brunetti' or in the Tatort episode 'Schmutziger Donnerstag' (2013, directed by Dani Levy). He has been a freelance actor and director since 2004, including at the Luzerner Theater.
