Francesc Prat is a Catalan conductor and composer. He studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música Barcelona, at the Lucerne Music Academy, at the Basel Music Academy and at the Zurich University of the Arts. Focusing on new music, he established himself in the music scene, especially in Spain and Switzerland, through engagements at the Lucerne Festival, the Basel Composition Competition, Art Basel and the Sónar Festival in Barcelona, among others. In October 2012, his first opera premiered at the Gare du Nord in Basel. From 2012 to 2015 he was assistant to Josep Pons at the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, where he previously assisted Sebastian Weigle. As assistant to British conductor Ivor Bolton at the Teatro Real in Madrid, he made his debut in 2016 with Wagner's 'Das Liebesverbot'. Further engagements took him to Theater Basel, Dutch National Opera, Neuköllner Oper Berlin, Teatro de la Zarzuela Madrid and Teatre Lliure Barcelona. In the 2019/20 season, he made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu with a chamber opera by contemporary composer Joan Magrané. He has conducted renowned orchestras such as the Essen Philharmonic. He has an ongoing collaboration with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Basel Sinfonietta, the Nederlands Kamerorkest and the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. He is the artistic director of the Orquestra de Cambra de l'Illa de Menorca. Francesc Prat's compositions, mainly chamber and ensemble music, have received several awards.
