Jia Lim comes from Singapore and first studied trumpet, music theory at the University of Michigan (USA) and harpsichord at the University of Berlin. This was followed by the inevitable pilgrimage to Basel, where she earned a master's degree in historical performance practice at the Schola Cantorum from 2011 to 2013. She won prizes at international competitions as a harpsichordist and chamber music partner. Since her student days, she has performed regularly on the early music scene - from grand stages in Europe to emptied swimming pools in Berlin - and roles have ranged from continuo player in oratorios, soloist in the Goldberg Variations, and drummer in medieval carols. She has worked as a repetiteur in various opera houses and baroque festivals. Interest in contemporary music led to world premieres and experimental projects with improvisation and electronics. In her project 'Sonus Feminae' she performs music of forgotten female composers with the ensemble Cité des Dames. She joined the theater world in 2019, performing in 'Vengapoise' and 'Sisyphus' at Volksbühne Berlin in the 2020/21 season. She first appeared in 'Das Narrenschiff' at Theater Basel. 'Little Ice Age' is her fourth work with Marius Schötz and Marthe Meinhold.
