Nicolás Fischtel was born in Chile and now lives in Madrid. He studied Lighting Design at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (RADA) and as a Fulbright grant holder at Yale University School of Dramatic Art. From 1991 to 1996, he was technical director and lighting designer at the Spanish National Dance Company, directed by Nacho Duato. Since then, Nicolás has designed lighting for a wide variety of dance, theatre and musical shows worldwide, across Europe, America, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Recent work includes the Royal Ballet, the Stanislavsky Ballet in Moscow and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He has won the Josep Solbes Award twice (2006 and 2008) and the Max Award 2022 for best lighting design. His lighting design can be experienced at Theater Basel in the latest creation of Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich as part of the double bill evening ‹Imbalanced Parallels›.
