Natascha
von Steiger Set design

Natascha von Steiger was born in Switzerland. She studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, assisting Prof. Erich Wonder at the Zurich Opera House, the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg Festival and the Metropolitan Opera in New York (with Ruth Berghaus, Jürgen Flimm, Daniel Schmid, Peter Mussbach, among others). Since 1996 she has been a freelance stage designer for drama, musical theater and dance in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. She has worked with Benedikt von Peter, Armin Petras, Sebastian Baumgarten, Hanna Müller, Jorinde Dröse, Cornelia Crombholz, Christiane Pohle, Dominic Friedel, Peter Kastenmüller, Hans Neuenfels, Bruno Cathomas, Wouter van Looy, Georg Reischl and Be van Vark, among others. In 2011 she was nominated for the German theater award 'DER FAUST' with the stage design for 'Das Erdbeben in Chili' directed by Armin Petras. Under the directorship of Armin Petras she was responsible for the set design at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin from 2008-2013 and at Schauspiel Stuttgart from 2013-2016. At Theater Basel, after 'Les Dialogues des Carmelites' (2009), 'Parsifal' (2011), 'Pension Schöller' (2012) and 'Matthäuspassion' (2022), she is designing the set for 'Das Rheingold'.
