Esther Bialas studied costume design at Fachhochschule für Gestaltung Hamburg and has since been working as a stage and costume designer.
She collaborates with various directors, including Nicolas Stemann, Barrie Kosky and Stefan Herheim. Joint productions with Nicolas Stemann have been invited to the Theatertreffen festival in Berlin more than once, for example ‹Hamlet›, ‹Die Räuber› and the world premiere of Elfriede Jelinek's ‹Das Werk›. Together with the acting collective LaborLavache, she has created stage and costume designs for Christiane Pohle. She has also taught costume design at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. Her most important recent works include costume designs for ‹Die Zauberflöte›, ‹Ball im Savoy› and ‹West Side Story› (Komische Oper Berlin, directed by: Barrie Kosky) and ‹Tri Sestri› by Peter Eötvös (Wiener Staatsoper, directed by: Yuval Sharon). For Stefan Herheim, she created the costumes for ‹Les contes d’Hoffmann› (Bregenzer Festspiele 2015, Copenhagen 2017), ‹La Cenerentola› (Oslo and Lyon 2017), ‹Norma› (Opera Oslo 2018) and ‹Peter Grimes› (Bayerische Staatsoper 2022). At Theater Basel, she designed the costumes for ‹Ein Käfig voller Narren (La Cage aux folles)› (directed by:
Martin G. Berger).

Dates follow
