Two energetic dance pieces that have their finger on the pulse

On the small stage, Ballett Theater Basel presents two world premieres with big topics. In ‹Mommy, Look!›, the siblings Marne and Imre van Opstal approach the topics of sensory overload, attention-seeking, self-esteem and stereotypes from a male perspective on a show stage surrounded by spectacularly flashing columns of light, with five dancers and a detailed dance language. The music was composed especially for this piece by the musician duo Hen Yanni and Rotem Frimer and was put together from various digital and analogue sound layers in close interplay with the choreography.
On a stage full of bright stars and black ashes, the couple Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich create a tense, pulsating ensemble piece titled ‹Supernova› that pushes the fourteen dancers to their physical limits. Guided by raw forces and the quivering sound of ‹Shaker Loops› (John Adams), the fourteen dancers transform themselves from one extreme to the next like a continuously meandering body complex under constant tension.
